Oak Park Creative Network

THE HISTORY OF THE OAK PARK CREATIVE NETWORK

The OPCN was started two years ago by Wendy Lalli, an Oak Park resident, and private career counselor. Ms.Lalli writes a career advice column, "Dear Lalli" for the Daily Southtown and Star newspapers and has written frequently on Job Search for the Chicago Tribune.

This year, (2005) she and Bob Edwards are giving a series of FREE Professional Development seminars at the Library throughout the year. Bob Edwards is a Senior Career Counselor, formerly with Drake Beam Morin and will also be co-hosting OPCN meetings this year.

During the past year the OPCN has hosted presentations by such speakers as

  • Susan Geffen, branding expert
  • Dennis Hamilton an outplacement counselor with Drake Beam Morin
  • Rob Sullivan, author of "How to Get Your Foot in the Door"

and others.

This year the group hopes to continue these activities and welcomes presentations from anyone who would like to share their expertise in career development, public relations, marketing, web design, etc.

In addition to the Monday meetings at the library, the OPCN also hosts a "Meet and Eat" meeting at different local restaurants once a month. These events give attendees a chance to get to know each other a little better and to enjoy making new contacts within the community.
