Brochure for First State School

first state school

Client: First State School

Objective: To introduce doctors, parents and school-age patients to The First State School of Delaware - a public school run in the Christiana Hospital for patients between the ages of 6 and 18.

Strategy: Create a tri-fold brochure for doctor's offices that could be given to parents when their children.

The patients/students had some visuals, photos, and poems developed for their year book that we incorporated into this piece - in effect, letting the students speak for themselves.

Results: Everyone was very enthusiastic about the brochure - hospital administrators, teachers, students, parents, and doctors - because it addressed the main concerns of the target audience honestly and clearly. Using the Students' own poems, drawings, and photos gave incoming patients a sense of connection to the school right from the start.

Comments: I interviewed students, teachers, parents, and doctor for this piece and oversaw the production of it as well. Since there was virtually no budget, we couldn't use the usual stock resources which was another reason to use the art work and photos taken by the students. Yet in spite of our limitations (or maybe because of them!) we came up with a piece that connected perfectly with its audience in a very authentic way.
